jeff
I read how to do it when my was screwy and it didn't seem hard. (I'm a 24 yo female college student) So you could probably do it. I saw instructions on the forum here someone. Try using the search feature. I think I saw it called the temp control valve or air control valve. Maybe water control valve. Hell I don't know what it's called. Someone tell him that knows.

I've had both problems on my V6 (hell, I still do--no time to fix them again).
For the sunroof, you have to replace the shims on the tracks inside the roof. This is a huge job, and it will either cost you a small fortune (if you pay a mechanic) or take you a full day to do yourself (or more, depending on your mechanical abilities). If you don't want to bother fixing it yet, I have a suggestion for a temporary fix to keep the rain from flowing into the roof. And no, I'm not kidding: jam a full-sized spoon between the plastic trim on the inside bottom of the sunroof and the track that sits in the roof. If you want, I'll take a pic and post it. It's rediculously ghetto, but it works...
Um, let's see...oh, right--problem #2 is the heater cable. It's actually called a water valve control cable, and it's more likely seized than broken. The electric cable that controls it doesn't have enough power to snap it, so it's just frozen. Try popping the looped end of the cable off of the water valve (under the hood, by the firewall). Pour penetrating oil onto it, and some will trickle into the cable...a few tries and it should un-seize.
Good luck!

sry..but i have the same problem with my roof also for like a month now.
if u dont mind..would you post a pic of wht u did to fix urs?
also..if u could, point out the part u called a shim,i'll try to find it at the junkyard and do it myself.thanks
Jeff, sounds like I have the same car as you do. I also have the same problems too. as for the water valve control problem, I fixed it just like "TbayToyboy" said yesterday. I used some penetrating oil on it... and now it works just fine. "Just in time for winter too!"
I also have the same issue with my sunroof too. I found a car at the junkyard the other day, with what seems to have a good sunroof system in it. So, if anyone can help out with on a "how to" that would be a big help and much appreciated.
Thanks, Jon

Alright, so I guess the sunroof problem is becoming more common--so I'll try to help you guys as best I can.
My first recommendation is that you all either a) buy, or b) borrow from a library, the Chilton's manual for the gen2 Camry. The Haynes is completely unhelpful for detailed diagrams of the sunroof. The factory Toyota service manual is also waaaay better than Haynes.
I will post a pic of my ghetto-ass temporary fix (the "sunroof spoon" as my friends laughingly call it). I cannot post a pic of the shims, as they are located inside the roof on the sunroof track. The Chilton's diagrams are very helpful...
Just to warn you all again: working on the sunroof is a long, involved process that requires a) time and b) patience. The entire roof liner must be removed, which requires removal of most of the trim inside the car (A-pillar and door pillar trim pieces).
I'll get some spoon pics later this afternoon.

I found a set of factory Toyota service manuals on ebay for about $100 with shipping. Do u think I should hold off for a better deal... or just jump on them now.
I was going to suggest Camrystuff.com but I haven't been able to view many of the files for some time...I wasn't sure if the site was wonky or if my stupid PC was already biting it. Anyone else having problems with the site? When I try to load the pdf files I get "the file was damaged and could not be repaired"...
