Is the cable adjuster broken or just stuck? Mine was stuck and I just popped the hood and sprayed some wd40 on it and now it works like a charm.

I read how to do it when my was screwy and it didn't seem hard. (I'm a 24 yo female college student) So you could probably do it. I saw instructions on the forum here someone. Try using the search feature. I think I saw it called the temp control valve or air control valve. Maybe water control valve. Hell I don't know what it's called. Someone tell him that knows.

I've had both problems on my V6 (hell, I still do--no time to fix them again).

For the sunroof, you have to replace the shims on the tracks inside the roof. This is a huge job, and it will either cost you a small fortune (if you pay a mechanic) or take you a full day to do yourself (or more, depending on your mechanical abilities). If you don't want to bother fixing it yet, I have a suggestion for a temporary fix to keep the rain from flowing into the roof. And no, I'm not kidding: jam a full-sized spoon between the plastic trim on the inside bottom of the sunroof and the track that sits in the roof. If you want, I'll take a pic and post it. It's rediculously ghetto, but it works...

Um, let's see...oh, right--problem #2 is the heater cable. It's actually called a water valve control cable, and it's more likely seized than broken. The electric cable that controls it doesn't have enough power to snap it, so it's just frozen. Try popping the looped end of the cable off of the water valve (under the hood, by the firewall). Pour penetrating oil onto it, and some will trickle into the cable...a few tries and it should un-seize.

Good luck!

Jeff, sounds like I have the same car as you do. I also have the same problems too. as for the water valve control problem, I fixed it just like "TbayToyboy" said yesterday. I used some penetrating oil on it... and now it works just fine. "Just in time for winter too!"
I also have the same issue with my sunroof too. I found a car at the junkyard the other day, with what seems to have a good sunroof system in it. So, if anyone can help out with on a "how to" that would be a big help and much appreciated.

Thanks, Jon

1988 Camry (just bought this car a 2 wks ago for $400) 150k miles on it. the ride and the engine are getting better every day.
Things that I have done to it so far,

Front Shocks
tie rod end
front brake pads
Front rotors
rebuilt both front calipers
2 new tires
alignment
fuel filter
PS/dust cover boot
thermostat
thermostat gasket
Timing belt
Trans filter & gasket
Change/transmission fluid
valve gasket kit
cv half axle
sway bar bushings
Fuel injector cleaning @ dealer $130 "they were really dirty"
new #2 fuel Injector

All work has been done by myself, except the cleaning @ the dealer on the injectors.

Alright, so I guess the sunroof problem is becoming more common--so I'll try to help you guys as best I can.

My first recommendation is that you all either a) buy, or b) borrow from a library, the Chilton's manual for the gen2 Camry. The Haynes is completely unhelpful for detailed diagrams of the sunroof. The factory Toyota service manual is also waaaay better than Haynes.

I will post a pic of my ghetto-ass temporary fix (the "sunroof spoon" as my friends laughingly call it). I cannot post a pic of the shims, as they are located inside the roof on the sunroof track. The Chilton's diagrams are very helpful...

Just to warn you all again: working on the sunroof is a long, involved process that requires a) time and b) patience. The entire roof liner must be removed, which requires removal of most of the trim inside the car (A-pillar and door pillar trim pieces).

I'll get some spoon pics later this afternoon.

You sure can. Just check ebay every now and again. They usually go for around $20 plus shipping, which is worth every penny--believe me!

And here are a couple of pics, as promised. Behold: the SUNROOF SPOON!

And you can see how level the outer surface is with the roof. No leaking...

I was going to suggest Camrystuff.com but I haven't been able to view many of the files for some time...I wasn't sure if the site was wonky or if my stupid PC was already biting it. Anyone else having problems with the site? When I try to load the pdf files I get "the file was damaged and could not be repaired"...
