Camry starts up then dies

I have a 91 Toyota Camry. The car starts easy enough but when I put it in a forward gear the thing coughs, belches, hiccups and then dies. It seems to be okay in reverse. I put new plugs, coil and rotor button about a month ago and the car has been running fine. But not now at all. Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and might have an easy solution? Very desperate here!

Without more information I would encourage you to clean the EGR system, throttle body and IAC valve. I think the EGR does this more noticably with a cold engine start than a hot engine start. If this doesn't help there are some other sensors that may need to be checked.

Can you keep it running in park long enough to warm up a little? If you can, does it seem to run a lot better?

If so, try your o2 sensor. It is a cheap enough part to throw at it, and it is easy to replace.

Mine did the same, and it didn't throw any codes, but it was the o2 sensor.
