2nd Generation This is a stumper GEN2 Tranny Question

I have a GEN2 5 speed tranny.

It has a smaller bolt next to the Fill Hole.

What is it for?

Sorry if there is a thread on this , please let me know .Been searching????

It goes through the casing & threads to something inside the tranny.

It came out and now can't find the thing it threads into anymore.

Tried lookin while someone went through the gears and slowly shifting to see if it would slide over.

Please help!

Car runs and drives great had to plug hole cause it leaked fluid.

THanks in advnce.

It is the only bolt next to the fill plug.

It is just to the right and a hair lower than the fill plug.

Also the bolt size is smaller too.

a 12mm socket fits it!

2nd Generation Found It !

It is called the " REVERSE IDLER GEAR SHAFT RETAINING BOLT"

Still reading the Toyota original Shop Manual I got from Craigslist.

I will edit as I find out!

Keywords: Transmission Bolt, fillplug

Deluca Solved

SOLVED THIS ONE!

1) We called the tranny shop and they said that the tranny needs to come out and they have to split the case.
$150 and a couple of hours and I can put the tranny back in the car.

2) Well Mr. DeLuca and I came up with the idea that if we shift the tranny in and out of reverse, Maybe the threads will line up with the case hole and I could put the Retaining Bolt back in with lock thread. NO Luck!

3) We then raised the wheels off the ground and moved the tire by hand while it was in gear....No Luck

4)Then we raised both wheels slightly off the ground and turned over the motor (with no power to coil) while in gear...NO Luck!

5) ONE LAST THING TO TRY! hook up the coil brace wheel chocks and safety stands...START UP THE ENGINE....PUT CAR IN REVERSE...

6) Have TRUSTWORTHY assistant slowly let out on the clutch....... WAH..LA I could see the Idle shaft turning and when I saw the threads we turned off the motor.

7) Lastly I used my screwdriver to carefully finish lining up the threads. Put loctite on the bolt and torqued it snug.

Just got back from a test drive and ALL IS GREAT!

I guess 7 is a lucky number??
