Replacing needles in dash? + other problem

Was wondering, how would i go about changing the needles in the dashboard? Nearly all my needles are warped. Is it as simple as yanking it out or would i need a whole new dash? Also, i think the temp gauge is wrong. I got this car 2nd hand and the previous owner said that the temp. gauge is incorrect. When i start it up, it shoots all the way up to high and will drop back down to normal temps and raise again, needles goes back and forth and doesn't really settle. What could be going on? Faulty thermostat? Loose connection somewhere? Any help is appreciated.

Yeah, pretty much you just carefully pull them off and push the new ones on. I had to do this when I swapped in a tach cluster on my '91. No problem, just be extra careful to make sure they're aligned properly.

Did you get new needles from Toyota or did you get them from wreckers?

I had to remove them during a tach cluster install, in order to remove & swap faceplates. I got an older tach cluster, which had different mounting holes than my '91. Hence, the need to remove needles & swap faceplates.
