How often do you change your oil. Most places recommend 3k, but I remember reading an article saying that most cars are fine with oil changes every 5-8k as long as your not in the desert, or enjoy driving at high RPM's.

5k for me... it is the recommended "severe duty" oil change interval for the Camry. I do about 30% city / 70% highway and it seems like a good price / protection tradeoff for me.
I actually do 7.5k intervals on my WRX, but it holds 20% more oil and I run synthetic oil with similar driving habits. 7.5k intervals are the recommended oil change interval for that car under most circumstances...

I do under 3K for my camry due to sluge issues. Trying to clean the engine up from what my uncle didn't take care of. So far so good. Just doing oil changes every some 1.5K to 2K miles. My versa is doing an oil change every 3K give or take a few hundread.
My owner's manual says to change oil every 3750 and the filter every 7500, but ever since I took possession of the car (~12,000), it has been every 3000 for both with whatever oil the Toyota dealer is using. The last time I asked it was Mobil 5W30. After 110,000 miles I have never had to add oil between changes.

i have to admit, since i've owned my car i haven't changed the oil. had it a year and it's been all over my lil state of tassie. it must be one of the cleanest running engines in tas. mind you the engine only has 12000 k's on it.

I change both oil and filter every 3000 miles. I use castrol High Mileage 10W40 and purolator pure one or premium plus filters. Combined with my K&N drop-in filter I plan on keeping her running for a long time.

What's everyone's approximate service interval in terms of time? How long does it take you to rack up said km's/mi's? 6 months, 12 months?
I haven't been driving much (maybe 3000km's since last oil change) and that was 5 months ago. Should i stick to changing it roughly every 6 months or every year?

In the summer months and I don't have school, it'll take me about 3 months to get the 3k miles. During school time, it can take anywhere from 4-6 months. Don't worry about the months between services, just mind the mileage. The condition of the oil over time instead of usage over a certain amount of distance should only be worried about when the car's been sitting a long time.
