1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
Lately I've been trying to buy spare parts for my SV11, specifically brake hoses, power steering hoses, and an O-ring for the water pump, and have found they have all been deleted from the spare parts catalog by Toyota. Is this a common problem, is it Australia only, and where can I get replacement parts? I'm annoyed enough to scrap my car and do without, I certainly won't be buying a new Toyota to replace this car if this is how they treat their customers. It's kind of ironic all the guff they spout about using genuine Toyota spares to keep your vehicle genuine, when they refuse to supply said parts. /rant
i've found that even for the later camry's we had at my old place of employment (local car rentals) the toyota dealers had to outsource for parts. best bet is to go to a local parts store that either specialise in yota parts, japanese parts, or just enthusiest cars in general. they may even have ideas as to what parts will work that technically suit other cars. (my uncles oldsmobile uses radiator hoses the same shape as the 96 falcon.)

Yeah, good thinking, will try that when I get a chance, I'm just quite p*ss*d off that Toyota no longer supply (certain) parts for this car, particularly rubber parts like the brake hoses that are not only vital to the safe operation of the car, but (I believe) are supposed to be changed every few years. It's not like I even expect them to keep stock in the country. I'm willing to wait weeks and pay the usual stupid prices for genuine parts, only now I have no option but to go aftermarket.
you may find that going for aftermarket parts will enable you to get higher quality/higher performance parts in the long run. if you look at it like this though, why would toyota make parts for a car that is over 20 years old and only say one quarter of the original build amount left in one piece? they spend money on the larger consumer market. one comment you made about scrappin the car and going newer............ for me to buy new exhaust here in tas (and thisisonly for thebig pieces) i'm going to have to spend over 800! i only paid 700 for it in the first place. wiegh up your options before you go in any direction.

Toyota have got some bits but the bits you wanted would have been supplied by any of the motor factors. I use AutoPro and find them excellant.
Just joined the forum and have a SV11 auto and would like to keep in touch with other owners. Regards
it's australia only... over here in the use i can still get all sorts of stuff for my gen 2 from toyota. anything prior to a gen 2 i think it's hard to find stuff over here though. but i'm sure the classic toyota forums know where to look.
