this is the first stage of the soon to be fitted airbox for my pod filter setup
already had the pod filter installed but i want the least amount of warm engine bay air. this is just a carboard template.
more to come soon

I'm going to put a pod filter in my Camry as well and had a though. Wouldn't it be easier to leave the stock air box there, rest the neck of the filter on the edge of the box and then make a lid to fit?

At that point, you would be back to being limited by the stock intake tube from the airbox, which is the real restriction in all of this.
For my car, I just removed the intake silencer and put in a K&N drop-in filter. A little extra sound, a little more cool air and stock looks.

Really? I always thought that the restriction was in the panel filter not being able to pass as much air through it as the pod. I honestly think it's more than enough. Better than sucking warm engine bay air which would be less dense than the cold air from the piping. Intake stroke should do enough sucking

bro in law did this in his 96 Ford Falcon. sounds solid enough till, like charlie said, you find that you're still restricted. mind you, it's not going to matter how far any of us go with this kind of mod, cos short of completely redoing the whole intake, plenum chamber the lot, all gains are going to be small. but even in our camry's, small gains are noticable.

and the air from the piping isn't that cold. it comes from behind the head light!
The air there is quite cool. Most of the heat from the headlights is reflected forward, and otherwise it draws air from in front of the radiator or fender well. Anytime I open my hood right after driving, the intake box and AFM are pretty much at ambient temp. Things start to heat up on the intake pipe connected to the throttle body and the intake manifold is hot, even though my throttle body coolant is bypassed.

I know, i'm just saying that in my case i want as much cold air as possible. wonder what a refrigeration unit wrapped around the intake pipe would do? LOL! however i will be using a heat reflective tape to shield the intake pipe. that coupled with the nice new hole in my bonnet and i'll be set.

define illegal? in tas as long as the Ribbing is intact it's legal. however the ribbing can be cut ant the bonnet reinforced to compensate and inspected by an autherised inspection station. i won't be cutting the ribbing.

Neither wrapping or refrigeration is generally worth the increase in power (unless a pipe goes right by an exhaust manifold or something).
Every 10*F is worth about 1% in power for your car...
