which is better 91 camry le v6 or 92 xle v6

91 is immaculate, garage kept one owner 117K new parts (radiaotr, brakes, alternator, tires)Immaculate interior with NO sun damage and almost no wear on seats!. 92 is a little banged up, but nice also garage kept one owner but no other details available. Leather on drivers seat beat, but presentable. Also garage kept and NO sun damage. 174K miles. I'm tempted to go for the older one because it is lighter but I've read the v6 model has problems. Both about the same price!

Thanks for any advice. This is a great forum and I can't wait to get my vintage camry!

To choose your Camry, you have to know exactly where your priorities lie. My 1990 V6 Camry (5-speed, not auto) has been absolutely bullet-proof for the five years I've owned it (it's at around 244,000miles now). So they don't all have problems...however, the Gen3 Camrys look much less "vintage" and so if cosmetics/prestige are in any way important to you then it's a more attractive option.

If you can set prestige aside, and base your decision solely upon anticipated reliability, then the 1991 V6 is probably the better buy. The 3VZ-FE engines found in the 92 V6 Camrys seem to be somewhat less reliable than the 2VZ-FE found in the 91. I keep seeing blown 92 or 93 or 94 engines, but I've yet to see a seized 89 or 90 or 91. I worked at a wrecker for three years until this summer, so I saw my fair share of both generations.

I hope this helps you, and doesn't raise more questions than it answers!

Well answered, I can't add much to that other than to say I really like the appearance of the Gen 2 Camrys. If I couldn't drive a Gen 2, I'd take a Gen 4 or 4.5

BTW Tim, you're not at the wreckers anymore? Wow, that's like the end of an era. You had some good inside scoops on parts there. Where you working at now?

Funny you should phrase it that way...it felt like an end to an era for me when I first left (for a maintenance job at the local school board). Luckily, I still get free parts on days when the manager isn't there because my ex-coworkers still like me! AND they actually have a GT-S Celica like the one I just bought. As for the Camry, see the thread I'm starting re" body work...
