1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
For our metric-retarded friends south of the border, 59K km is roughly equivalent to just over 36,000 miles. My genius in math has worked out that that averages out to 3000km or 1800mi per year. UNREAL, I tells ya!

Yeah, if I hadn't just bought my Celica, I'd be bargaining with this guy to get that Camry...I'd love to have a gen2 that could last another 20 years!

Well, remember that the northern half of North America suffers from a terrible (yet oh-so-fun) affliction known as SNOW. Sadly, the majority of drivers on said continent cannot drive worth shat in the snow, and so our very considerate municipalities dump millions of metric tons of salt on the roads each year. It absolutely destroys our sheet metal.
I forgot to rust-proof (i.e.: oil under-spray) my Camry only once and it rusted so bad in that one winter that I now have to replace both rear quarter panels and the trunk lid (or boot, as I think you Aussies call it).
And that is how we get rust. It's the plague of our time.

My '91 had 42k (that's miles, for my buddies up top & down under )
It's got about 80k on it now.
But I think I've got the record for low mileage, although I didn't actually SEE it, my service writer at the dealership was telling me about it. Some lady brought in a '91 with FIVE THOUSAND MILES on it last year. She got it from her dad I think, who just stored it in the garage. She had the fluids changed & new tires put on it. Service guy told me it looked cleaner under the hood than any of the new cars they've got out on the lot and overall still looks brand new. I really want to see this car in person.
Actually, the lowest mileage one I know of is sitting in the visitor's center at the Toyota plant in Georgetown. 1988, white with blue leather & sunroof. I think it's got like 30 miles on it. It's VIN plate has all zeros in it I think.
it has to be the salt! as a former sea side dweller i will admit my old mazda had a fair amount of rust from the salt in the air. i'm lucky where i live though as salt is not applied to the road for any purpose at all. kinda gives new insight into the ideals of a larger population base as to how to aleviate the same problem.

Bill, you now have a mission. Get us some spy shots of said car. I wonder what it might fetch at auction (insert sound of me counting my pocket change)?

I would LOVE to see this car! Better yet, I would LOVE to own this car!
There's a restauraunt here in town where someone who works there drives a near mint wagon, very rare champaign color with basketweaves. I drive by it all the time. I'd love to have that car as well. Gonna need a wagon after I turn in the Taco.... hmmm...
Of all the ones actually seen, my sister has you all beat, about a year and a half ago she bought her camry from some lady she worked with. 89 v6 auto... 24,000 original miles, this car was mint, or as mint as you can get. Shame she drives alot, already has nearly 50k on it. Then there was some stupid lady on her cell that rear-ended her at a stop sign and the body shop didn't do the best job reparing it so that little metal strip below the left tail light is still kinda bent forward.
Oh and I almost forgot to say how much she gave for it, drum roll... 2,800. I'm not sure if she took pictures of the odometer when she bought it but I will try to find it.
