2nd Generation Help with Water Pump 91 Camry

I have a 91 Camry, 3SFE, 16 Valve DOHC, 2.0L

In the Toyota repair manual it states that you need to "remove the water pump bolts in the sequence shown." But it doesn't show the sequence.
Does anybody know the sequence and what the purpose of the sequence is?

I am not aware of any specific sequence, if there is any, they may be located in the picture itself. Probably have something to do with the different size of bolt used, 12mm and 10mm hex head bolts. I usually take off the bigger ones first and then the smaller ones, never had any problem; reverse for installation.

The 5SFE 4cyl sequence is the top bolt first, then the aft bottom bolt and finally the middle bolt. The 5sfe requires only 82 inch-pounds of torque.

This sequence is shown on the picture in the manual. Hope that helps.

well, in the manual it says to reinstall the bolts "in the sequence shown" and it actually shows it that time. Common sense would tell me that the reverse would be the order in which to remove them but I'm just not sure.

Funny, my manual (Gregory's) it says that only the left side (looking straight at it with exhaust manifolds on the right) bolts need loosening in a specific order. That is, centre, bottom and then top. Then it says "Installation is the reversal of the removal procedure..." So yes, you are right Greg

And Kep, he has a 3SFE, not a 5SFE.

Are you replacing the back cover too?

Well, my goal is to just replace the pump so far.
Should I replace it for any reason?

Failure to remove the cover will result in leak between the pump cover and cylinder block[common comebacks when I was working in the shop]. Remove complete pump and replace o-ring at the cover to block mating side and another o-ring on the heater pipe.
If corrosion is present on the back side of pump cover apply 1/8 inch bead of sealant around the ring.
