Alternator replacement

I have a 91 Camry, 4 cyl, auto trans with 210k. I need to replace the alternator. It looks straightforwardly simple. Are there any unforseen tricks to this?

No, just make sure you disconnect the battery.

lol.
if the alternator has been on for a long time you may need to pry it out of the bracket with a large screwdriver.

The plastic cover on the pos terminal is somewhat delicate, be gentle with it. Loosen the locking bolt, Loosen the pivot bolt. Loosen the tensioning bolt until the belt can be slipped over. Watch the wires when dropping the alternator to make sure they aren't strained when it drops. Before trading in the core make sure that the replacement pulley is the same size (mine was different).

Dxxx, you were suppose to remind me before I post, not joke about my half gone memory afterwards. It is actually not to bad since I at least remember about disconnecting the battery part, because I usually found out about that when the sparks start to fly.

i've seen a few idiots (those who think they know best) and a few clueless people (those who didn't know how bad it could be or were having a bad day) shock themselves quite badly. and there's the "extreme" possibility of shorting out all your wiring and electrical components.

Sometimes the alternator is hard to pull from its mounting bracket. It usually takes place if pivot bolt was too tight . Use large screwdriver or flat side of lug wrench to pry between the bracket and the alternator housing. This shoud help to remove alternator.

The only issue that I had when I did mine was the pivot bolt broke. Other wise it was a 5 minute job.

Thanks to All

I want to thank everyone for their input. I replaced my old alternator which had 110K on it with a remanufactured Denso replacement. The job was a breeze. It took about 10 minutes to do with NO scraped knuckles. THANKS to ALL of you.
