Condensation under trunk lid

I moved to the Northwest from southern California. Now that is getting cold and rainy I am getting so much condensation that it is dripping on the carpet. Never had this problem in California. Is there anything that someone can recommend to fix this. Thanks

Have you checked if there is water elsewhere in the trunk? Maybe in the spare tire well or in the corners where it meets the fender?

There shouldn't be enough water inside the car to get it to condense like that unless you have another problem. Make sure you run exterior air as much as you can (when it is drier/warmer out) and use the A/C along with the defroster when its cold to keep the air dry in the car. If you have another leak, fix it (around the tail lights, the trunk lid seal or elsewhere).

I think, from extensive experience, that Charlie has probably guessed your problem with the suggestion that the tail light assemblies may be leaking. Over time (especially in more arid regions) the silicone-y sealant around the light housings cracks, allowing water spray or run-off to enter the trunk. If you remove the plastic liner inside the trunk, you'll likely see evidence of water running-down into the spare tire compartment and the rear fenders. Over time it causes condensation and dripping.

Around the trunk, there is a channel that runs outside the rubber gasket that seals the lid when closed. Look for small cracks in the welds in this channel. My daughter had a spare tire well full of water and it took forever to find out where it was coming in. A little silicone sealant on the weld cured the problem.

I highly suspect water is in the trunk, either in the spare tire or the two sides.

Get it cleaned ASAP. You do NOT want mold growing inside of your trunk.
