It is illegal to SELL the used cat on the open market. As long as this cat is for the same model /engine you are fine installing it. Note 89 -up California cats my require the plug for the downstream O2 sensor
Make sure you lock the car and it's hood so your 'friends' wont get some toys from your wagon.

I read up on it and I learned a few things. its illegal to reuse a cat from a salvage yard unless tested and re certified. it is legal to reuse a cat as long as its been tested by official sources. A muffler or automotive shop is not aloud to install a used cat even if the customer says its from the vehicle they have. so basicaly ts not illegal to reuse a cat its illegal to reuse an untested cat.

Nobody wants the whole car. does anybody want the engine or parts of the engine? new oil pump, new water pump, Pistons are in good shape with new rings, Spare parts anybody?
