Question Antifreeze coming from overflow hose?

I have a 1989 Toyota Camry LE. This has happened to us twice now. When we shut the car off we hear a bubbling coming from under the hood and sure enough antifreeze is coming out of the overflow hose instead of going back into the radiator. The first time it happened we went and bought a new cap..we thought we had fixed the problem but 3 weeks later it did it again. It's been 2 days since it happened and it hasn't done it again.

What can cause this?

We have a new thermostat but we haven't put it in yet because we aren't sure if a bad thermostat could cause this or not.

Does engine run hot [3/4 of the temp gage scale] before boil over happening?
On cold engine inspect the radiator filler neck .
Cavities there are causing the radiator cap not to seal properly.
If no cavities are found the boil over can be caused by small leak in the head gasket
use emission probe or block test to check [I have had it on my Supra before]

Could be a bad head gasket. Friend's previa overheated and when cranked, it sounded it had no/little compression. When it was cold, it kept having antifreeze coming out from the overflow hose upon starting.

Head gasket blown, definetly. replace your thermostat when you replace your headgasket.
