1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
The lock is stuck in the horizontal position. If I engage the drivers side quick release nothing works. When I use the key to turn and open there is no give. Its solidly shut. Does anyone have any pointers?
Fold down the rear seatbacks, crawl in with a flashlight & tools and have a look. See if you can pop it open from inside. If you can do that, then you'll at least have it open so you can find the problem. Won't be easy (unless you're built like a 4-year old).
Hate to hijack your thread but i have a similar issue with my cam.
When i go to use the key, it doesnt turn the lever to push to other lever to pop the trunk, because it doesnt reach anymore. The drivers side release lever opens it up, but its kinda annoying when the car is locked up that i have to unlock the car and pull the lever just to get into the trunk.
And is it just me or am i the only one with a 4 door DX withOUT fold down seats?

Until I had my base Camry, I always thought all gen2 Camry rear seats folded down... I guess it was a popular option on the DX models.
Even though you don't have the folding seats, you can remove the seats to get in the trunk. Pop the seat bottom up and out using the clips at the front, remove the two bolts at the base of the seatback and pull it out. Its pretty easy.
