clutch fork problem ?

hi we are replacing the clutch pack and flywheel and throwout bearing on an 86 camry 4cyl gas engine car, i have no idea what generation 86 is within so i posted here

the problem is that when we got the car the slave cylinder was already replace3d by the owner but the clutch still did not operate

the owner states that the clutch function disappeared over the matter of a few weeks or couple weeks or something

the fork is extremely loose sloppy and doesnot stay put on the ball pivot stud at all when depressing the clutch pedal

the retainer wires things were on the ballstud like they are supposed to be as well

the fork arm comes outwards towards the front of the car out of the bellhousing area somewhat

it doesnt stay put on the ball pivot stud like it should

everything is fine, the throwout bearingis on the fork correctly and everything else is good and new and etc

is there some issue with fork wear i am unaware of ? ball pivot stud wear ?

if so where do we find new ones ?
i checked rockauto and they dont carry such parts at all

no local parts stores can get anything either

we need to get this car out off the lift and out of the shop ASAP the owner needs the car pretty badly he says and it is tying up the shop.

thanks for anything!

Did he replace the master cylinder? Is the spring clip holding the clutch fork on the pivot? Have you check the dealer for parts?

N.E.O.

hi there well the fork goes so far that it about hits the bellhousing, the travel is great

so hydraulically it working great

mechanically no

something is wrong at the fork pivot point

the depression in the fork for sitting on the pivot just seems wrong

major wear

copper colored instead of zinc colored

did have to bleed out air from the slave and line because the owner didnt

same exact problem and things happening as before new clutch pack and bearing etc

the wire clip setup was on and around the ballstud correctly also

dealer i have not tried yet but will call monday if i havent found anything online before then

check this page out, it claims to have a fork for 17 bucks ?

what do you think ??

When you had the transmission out does the fork look like it is bent or flexing? Can yo post a picture of how it looks like now?

BTW, can't really say anything about the part from the link that you had posted, no picture to compare.

N.E.O.

hmm yeah ill have to post a pic tomorrow i suppose hmmm

i cant tell any flexing by just looking at it

it really all looks fine except majot pivot point wear

looks pretty straight and no evidence of having bent or anything like that.

it just seems like the fork is far away from the bearing alot possibly

the fork seems to be positioned way too far to the driver side of the car.. and too close to the driver side edge of the clutch fork bellhousing cut-out opening...

even at rest.. with pedal not depressed.. as if the fork is on over the ballstud too far.. too far sunken around onto the ballstud

the old bearing and new one are identical in thickness and everything so its not the new bearing is wrong

plus thisa problem already existed before the new parts anyways

hmmm

we have replaced billions of clutch packs over the years on billions of different vehicles and have never come across this issue like this before til now
hmm

it came to us already messed up like this

thanks again

Unless the fork is bent, or the pivot point had worn through, there isn't any reason why it won't push against the throw-out bearing.

welp figured it out finally tonight

got to looking at the car real closely and noticed there was a gap on both sides of the clutch disc

decided to put the original pressure plate assembly on it with the new disc

fixed it

even though the new plate assembly is the correct one and looks identical something is wrong with it when it is installed, the fingers are sucked inwards towards the flywheel badly.. and all the way,..

so we wont be using it..

finally the clutch works and the fork is not loose sloppy all over the place it works good.

have no idea how or why the new plate assembly is so messed up when installed.

no explaination or clue..

the store has no idea and neither do we.

only thing i can think is wrong plate assembly in wrong box somehow.

first time this has ever happened. of all the clutch replacements we have done over the years hmmm.

thanks

Interesting, however, it does explain why it was doing the same with the old disc.

Anyway, good to hear that you have it resolved.
