I have a 1989 Camry LE and I'm having a few issues.

1. The lock on the ignition is not turning so I went to autozone today and bought a new ignition lock cylinder thing. does anyone know how to remove the lower panel thing underneath the steering wheel, I dont see any screws and I dont wanna break it.

There are bolts, 10mm head:

4x at the bottom of the panel
1x behind the speaker grill
1x behind the coin slot to the left of the steering column
1x behind the switch panel to the right of the steering column

With an LE (adjustable column) you should be able to get the plastic steering culumn stuff off with the screws from the bottom after the lower dash pad is removed.

I haven't replaced a lock cylinder yet, so you are on your own there...

when I had my column off i didn't pay much attention to how the black button was in there... i'm going to have to remove it again in a few days to replace my wiper switch.

Ima try contacting local places that know about things in toyotas and japanese cars n crap. Hopefully somebody can fix it or remove whatever that button lock stuff.

Ok, actually I cant afford to pay anyone. If anybody knows how to replace the ignition lock cylinder please post or pm me asap. the illustrations on the instructions are horrible and I can't find any sites online.

what I would do first, is take your current vehicle registration and/or title and go to the nearest Toyota dealer where the parts department will look up the key code for you and cut you a new key. Then see if it fixes your problem....the new key should cost you less than $20 out the door.
It's not worth the aggravation of installing the lock you got..if the new key fixes it, return the new lock you bought!!!

there's 4 screws... i think at least this is the base model... all covered by plastic nubs.. u'll see it... the hardest part is taking off the door opener or what's it called.. 1 screw and u have to wedge the wire off the plastic clip with like 1' of working clearance.. i wish i had pics for u but i've done it so many times it's easy for me
