Celica Alltrac (ST185) coilovers installed on Alltrac Camry
Recently, I acquired Tein ST185 Super Street coilovers, and I finally had a chance to install them over the weekend. There were a few things to note:
- Front strut tops are slightly smaller on the Celica. A little bit of time with the dremel fixed that (see picture below, it was a small amount)
- Front brake line mount points were different. Zip ties to the rescue!
- Front brake line mounts interfered with the chassis - a little bending fixed that.
Ride height is pretty much right-on with the factory settings. I'll see how it settles out over the next few days before the alignment. I'm going for a sleeper look, so I might raise the front back up just a bit.
The goods:
Brake line mount differences:
Upper mount, after a bit of grinding:
Front fitted:
Initial front ride height:
Rear fitted:
Initial rear ride height:
Keep in mind this only applies to the Alltrac Camry - the rear suspension is totally different on the Alltrac. You may be able to fit FWD Celica parts on a Camry though...
Hope you guys like the pics.

That's some good food for thought...I might just eyeball the set-up on my Celica (FWD) as compared to my Camry and see if it would work. I honestly hadn't thought of it.

The rear struts are much shorter on the Alltrac. I'm not sure if the bolt pattern on the top is different. I'd compare stock struts before committing to buy any aftermarket Celica coilovers...

i would also like to know how much different the rear is. the bottom part looks the same, but like you said charlie, your not sure about the top mount. how much shorter are the rear struts? and if its a three bolt system and still bolts up under the speaker deck, you might be able to just drill new holes if needed. atleast in theory?

look out, ed wants to drop kick spiderman!!
The rear Alltrac rear struts are 3-4 inches shorter than the FWD rear struts. The top is still a fairly standard 3-bolt pattern and could be re-drilled if necessary.
The bottom bolt pattern, spacing and mount width might also be different, along with the brake line brakets (that last part isn't critical).
There is no reason to worry about Alltrac parts compared to FWD parts since there are also coilovers available for the FWD Celicas that might be used instead.

I confirmed a few years ago that the rear struts for a 4th gen celica would also fit the rear of a gen2, and from what i remember, 5th gen celica struts were compatible with 4th gen celica, so 4th/5th gen should work.
never got a chance to check the fronts, but this makes it sound like it should.
