Can anyone tell me what fault codes 31 and 51 mean?

Code 31: Problem with MAP sensor or open or short in its wiring

Code 51: Switch Condition Signal Circuit.

Throttle position sensor, Park/neutral or A/C amplifier switch circuit.

What year is your car? Don't think Gen 1 and 2 have MAP, air flow meter maybe?

Code 51 can be trigger when you are checking for codes. Suggest clearing it first and see which one comes back or if any comes back.

"87 model. I know she hasn't got map, just translated as air flow.
How do you clear codes?

Will check all connectors to i think, just to be on the safe side.

Pull the EFI fuse will clear the code. Make sure you have good pin tension for the AFM connector terminals too.
