Fan won't turn off !

I have a 1988 Camry 3.5 V6. A couple of days ago I turned on the ignition and the main cooling fan turned on. I started the car and drove it thinking it would turn off. It stays on constantly. Is there a switch or sensor that I need to check or replace? Can someone tell me where it is and what it is called? Is it a factory part? Thanks.

88 Camry with a 3.5L V6? 2.5L V6 maybe?

The coolant fan switch, I think it is somewhere around the thermostat housing in front of the engine or on the radiator, either one of the two, can't remember for sure.

Are one or two fans on and if so, left, right or both?

Standing in front of the car it would be the fan on the right, nearest the battery.

Is there a way to check the relay before I go out and buy one?

Does the car have AC, this might be the AC fan. Is the AC on?

Typically the fans are connected to a coolant sensor on the radiator or coolant manifold coming out of the head. They are typically wired so that a disconnected wire will turn them on. Check the wiring, make sure a wiring plug has not come off.

The relays would be in a plastic box, engine compartment.

You can test each relay using an ohm meter, see link below:

The link below has the wiring diagram, click on Figure 25.

Right fan is extra one as i know. If its not a problem with wiring plug, maybe radiator is too old? =) by the way thermostat is weak place of cooling system.

See if there is another identical relay in the relay box for some non-esential item. If there is, swap the two as a test.
