insturmnet lights 1991 camry

just purchased insturment lights working when I drove it home, lights quit working 2 days later, noticed tail light fuse blown, replaced still no lights, only thing I have done is install new radio. Any thoughts or wiring harness available so I can bypass dimmer switch which cost $126.00 and don't know if that is the problem. Thanks

Do the tail lights now work? All lights work such as the cig lighter, defogger switch, etc but not the console lights.

Have you checked Gauge fuse?

The AutoZone website at www.autozone.com has wiring diagrams.

The following lights are supposed to be on the same circuit and connected in parallel.

Cig, combo meter, radio, defog, A/T indicator, hazard switch, cruise, autotrans shift pattern selector, O/D,

Parallel means each light is connected between the power source buss and dimmer buss. The dimmer is connected between the dimmer buss and ground.

Power runs to one buss, through the bulbs and to the other. Then through the dimmer and ground. One wire from each bulb is connected to each buss.

In reality these busses could be just areas where the wires are grouped together or a junction box.

If any bulbs are working the Tail fuse is OK. If any of the lights dim, the rheostat is OK.

You might have an issue with the bulbs themselves or the wiring to them.

If I read that right, the dimmer switch which costs $126.00 on my car broke and I grabbed one out of a junk yard car, $5. It was about 2 years ago and its still running great.
