3SFE Distributor

I'm looking for an exploded view diagram of a '91 Camry 3SFE distributor. I purchased a rebuild kit (seals, bearing, etc) from Kbox Engineering and before I take it apart, I'd like to get a feel for what I'm up against. I have a Factory Repair Manual, but it doesn't get down to the piece part level.

Also, if anyone knows of a step-by-step to disassemble/assemble this unit, it would be much appreciated.

The basic issue I'm trying to address is an oil leak that has developed on the inside of the distributor.

Thanks - Paul

3sfe distributor

Paul,

The oil leak is most likely from the distributor shaft o-ring. This part was available was available from a toyota dealership back in 2007. It should still be a similar price. I would suggest try changing this first and see if it is the problem. It it was, i would say stay with the original and keep the new one as a back up. As to the procedure for seal replacement, it should be in the manual. If not try a search for distributor seal replacement. When I did it, I believe i removed the wires and then the cap. MATCH MARK the position of the actual distributor with white out with a line, engine to distributor. Next, i believe three bolts will remove the distributor from the engine. As you will be able to see on your new distributor there is a shaft that will interlock into the engine. On there is the o-ring that leaks. TAke a pick or screw driver and pull it off. DO NOT TURN the shaft. For the new one, i just threw it on and put everything back. I do not know if i should have put some oil on it first like as in a oil filter.

Good luck

midnight - Sounds like I need to clarify a little bit. My oil leak is inside the distributor itself. I think you're talking about the external O ring. The seal I need to replace goes around the rotating shaft itself. It looks something like a valve stem seal.

Thanks - Paul
