3SFE Rebuild-Part 2

In continuation of this thread: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=279636

I got the car put back together. Head was machined, bad valve replaced. I replaced all of the seals on my motor, including the badly leaking oil pump and installed a new water pump.

The car was running great, other than the distributor timing needing some slight adjustment. After a short test drive, the water pump began leaking badly. Briefly looking it over tonight, it seems to be leaking where the pump housing attaches to the block.

When installing the pump, I used the provided o-ring, and a small bit of RTV to tack the gasket in place during installation. So obviously I did something wrong. Is there any trick to putting this thing back together to avoid leaks like this?

I noticed my new cam seal was leaking a little, noting major at all. Is this to be expected with a new seal, or do I have a issue here?

Another question. After a upper motor rebuild to this extent, is there anything else I should do/watch for once I start driving this beast? I do plan on a oil change after dring a frew hundred miles. Changed the oil right after the rebuild also, so it's running on a clean batch.

the block where the ring hits it has to be spotless, use 3m weatherstrip to hold the ring onto the pump and grease up the ring on the pipe

Found out why my water pump was leaking. My o-ring didn't seat correctly, and I didn't use much rtv. Plus I missed part of the old gasket...Duhhh! I bought some water pump/thermostat RTV and sealed the hell out of it, with new gaskets, after a very thorough cleaning of the surfaces.. Should be good now.

On the cam seal, talked to a mechanic and found out I didn't install the seal correctly. Replacing it tomorrow. I put the seal in when I screwed the bearing cap in, instead of driving it in. And I didn't use and grease or sealer on it.

One more thing. My new water pump came with a brass screw. There is a threaded hole that goes to nowhere on the new pump. What is this for?

I was wondering the same things about my water pump that I put in a month ago (got the water pump from Advance Auto Parts). No problems so far.

I simply put some teflon on the screw threads and ran it into the pump, so who knows. I bought the pump from autozone.

Got everything together, all of the leaks are fixed. When I reassembled the timing belt this time, I must have jumped a notch. On the test run, the car was very sluggish with no power. Going to recheck everything tomorrow. I'll post some pics when I'm done with this thing.
