Accelerator halting in first gear?....

Drove my 88 camry wagon through some pretty big puddles on the freeway, then a few blocks from the house the accelerator starts to halt and stutter...feels like driving with the ebrake on but its definitely the gas pedal (I think...) I let it dry out overnight and runs fine today. Just needed some rest? Dangerous problem I should get checked immediately? I'm in the dark.

This sounds like deteriorated ignition system components are causing a misfire when they are getting wet. You can try to duplicate this problem by taking a plant sprayer or some other water spray bottle and spraying down the distributor cap and spark plug wires thoroughly to duplicate what had happened. Then try to drive the car. If the problem returns, you have varified an ignition sytem problem. Start by replacing the distributor cap and spark plug wires (probably a 1-piece unit if your car is a 4 cylinder 3SFE engine), along with the distributor rotor. If that doesn't solve the problem, you will next need to replace the coil inside the distributor. They have a tendancy to develope hairline cracks with age and will short themselves out to any metal inside the distributor when they get wet or damp.

As a side note, when you post a question is is always a good idea to give how many miles on the car, what engine the car has and any maintenance that has been done to the car and at what mileage.
