Slow Acceleration

Hi i am seeking for help/solution to a problem with my Auto 91 Camry. Sometimes when accelerating from zero it moves like a turtle even when i hit the gas pedal real hard. It has to reach 25mph to start speeding up, so what i do to speed up from the start is that i put it on the lowest gear, (3) and hit the gas. PLease i need to know what the problem is and if anyone can help.

Thanks

if engine revs up but car moves slowly, check the transmission [fluid level]
If engine lacks power at acceleration, "hit" the gas pedal in P or N; if engine responded with delay
check for
trouble codes
spark plugs
vacuum leaks
fuel mixture [possible lean]
if engine lacks power under load check ignition timing and ignition coil.

"i put it on the lowest gear, (3)"

1 or L would be the lowest gear. 3 is 3rd gear.

That sounds like a transmission problem. How many miles are on the car and what type of transmission maintenance has been done over the years?
