I want to get an HID kit for my 90 camry DX but i dont know which one i should get. In the end i would like to convert all of my lights to HID tail, turning and head, o and i cant forget the third tail light. so if anyone knows which kits i need for each please let me know. TY!
they don't make HID for those kind of bulbs like the ones we have 1156/1157 you can only get HID headlights... even if you do you'll blind everyone else because the halogen housing isn't meant for HID and you'll have glare everywhere

Yep, the flutes on the lens would make it blinding for everyone. Other cars have plastic lens so it's possible to sand and file them down, plus retrofit a projector, but ours is glass so that's hard to do haha.
is there anyway to get past the housing problem?? hmmmmm. the whole reason i wanted to do the tail lights is because they not very bright. what else would you recomend i do to brighten them up? also has anyone expierenced problems with the lighted display that tells you what gear your and and weither o/d is on or off? some times the p square doesnt light when in park and the o/d off light doesnt light at all. while im talking about o/d has anyone had a problem where the car will drop out of over drive without touching the o/d button. i had o/d on and it went into over drive but after a few miles it down shifted on its own and the only way to get it to work again is to stop, put the car in park, turn the car off, start the car, then put it in drive. its gotten quite annoying .
Replace all your tail light bulbs and clean the reflectors in the housings. Sometimes old bulbs get a dark film on them that reduces their brightness. Unless you have a problem with your wiring, that should get you plenty of brightness. All the other gen2 Camrys I see on the road are plenty visible.
Don't put HIDs in the stock headlight housing - you will get horrible glare and it will be unsafe for other drivers. I have been trying to figure out a way around the housing problem for a while, and I don't have a good answer.
Post a separate thread about the transmission shifting problem - there are a few smart guys on here that might be able to help that won't look in this thread.

I'm not sure if the projector retrofit would help at all, as the many flutes on the headlight glass would still be in the way. But if you do, make sure to take a lot of pictures, as I like looking at this kind of stuff haha.

although most people will tell you not to get them because they are garbage, i purchased any ebay HID kit for $75. it was only low beam, so i dont have high beams, but i dont need them. and they work great. i've been using them for almost a year with no problem. now the only thing you need to decide on is what rating to get. i would suggest 8000k. its a good mix of form and function.
The higher you go in kelvin from 4300K, the less lumens there will be, which is the amount of usable light. People running 10000K with the purple color are running with less output than the stock beam. Once you drive in rain, forget about it. Max I'd go is 5000k, 4300k is the color most manufacturers use. Go for 5000k, because some aftermarket HID companies have yellow 4300K ratings.
Another reason for not using HID in tail lights and turn signals is that HID lights are not instant "on". There is a brightness delay as the lamps are activated. Anyone in a gym where the HID lights have just been turned on will experience this. For this reason, emergency lights are separate from the HID gym lights and will utilize other types of lamps that are instant on.
I wanted a High Intensity Discharge kit for my 84 TOYOTA CAMRY which is a very cool light and better visibility especially during night driving. I opted to go with the single beam HID kit too and love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty so I got it here Sealed Beam Headlight Kits , or you can try one of the vendors. Also some of the forum sponsors usually have a sale going on. Either way its a great system, and very easy to install.
