2nd Generation performance for sv21 sedan 3sfe

hi im looking for speed out of my 88 sedan. i have a pod filter fitted already and looking to a lukey 2 1/4 exhaust with ultra flo mufflers, extractors and maybe some headers of a early celica, drone wont bother me because my stereo will be pumping.

Budget $750AUD for performance

any other ideas of minor mods would be excelent

Cheers

You've probably read this many times before, but the FE is an economy engine. You can't get much more out of it aside from a larger exhaust system.

Your best bet (and many people will tell you this) would be.. if you save up some cash do a 3S-GTE conversion because it will bolt straight in and you just need a better box and few other upgrades. Im going to do this later on in the year when i saved up enough cash.. but it is definitely worth it though.

It will cost a fair bit to do the conversion

$3900 -- clip (I got a smokin' deal!)
-$850 -- hood/bumper from clip
-$250 -- front suspension from clip
-$950 -- original turbo kit
+$1100 -- LSD installed
+$200 -- V6 brake conversion
+$350 -- Axles, rebuild, bracket
+$200 -- Oil filter relocation w/ -12AN lines and special adapter for the block
+$50 -- used EBC
+$50 -- alignment (hook-up price)
+$200 -- misc

= about $4k

While I was in there, I replaced the steering rack, tie rod ends, wheel bearings and a bunch of other stuff, so the real cost is higher. If you car is in good shape, that stuff isn't going to be needed. My car also already has springs, struts, F/R swaybars, all poly bushings, 16" wheels with good tires, big fuel pump, etc... so the rest of the car is ready for it. Oh yeah, there is other stuff that I should be able to sell from the clip, but I'm not counting my chickens before the hatch...

IMO, it's better to just save up some money and get a sporty car to begin with. By clip, i think he means a front cut/half cut.

You can do a 3s-gte swap for significantly less than I listed - but you will be missing out on quality. Also, since that post, prices for a good clip have come down by about 25%... reducing the cost to closer to $3k in parts.

I'm not actually suggesting that anyone do the swap though - a better platform should definitely be on your list of 'options'
