alright, so i just picked up a 7th gen shifter for my manual 88 camry. it didn't come with any bushings on it. you know, the bushings at the end of the shifter. i thought maybe the camry ones would fit, nope! i go down to toyota to order new 7th gen ones, they tell me the computer shows nothing about the bushings!
how are you guys fitting these 7th gen shifters into your camrys? if toyota does make a bushing for the 7th gen, please give me a product number. any advise is greatly appreciated. thanks!
I assume you are talking about the little teflon sleeve that goes around the two balls on the shifter? I believe those that have done the swap got the shifter with those still attached... They are actually pretty hard to remove, but are often reused when somebody installs a short shifter in their car.

edit: I can't seem to find them on my EPC...

i found it!! 5th gen celica shifter bushings fit. i test fitted the bushings off of my brother's celica tonight, and they work. so, off to the stealership tomorrow...again!
Jimnist, the shifter isn't installed yet. i've got to order new shifter bushings before i can install it. the 7th gen shifter is suppose to reduce the throw compared to the 2nd gen. and when i compared the 2 shifters, the 7th gen is going to provide just that. the 7th gen shifter lever is longer below the pivot ball. this is what gives you the shorter throw. the 7th gen shifter itself is also shorter in length compared to the 2nd gen. so, i'll have to squeeze down on the shift boot to get the knob on. i think i've seen pics of this upgrade on other peoples cars. not bad looking.
I ran a 5th gen celica short shifter for while with no problems on my first Camry. I run a stock 6th gen shift lever on my 3s-gte swap.
Best plan for the shift boot is to replace it. You can pull off the vinyl part from the plastic base and stretch a universal shift boot over it (I used a leather Momo boot).

WTF is wrong with toyota?!? now, i have to try and find a junk celica to pull parts from. what a hassle! living in the south eastern part of the US sucks! you can't find shit for imports.
