All-trac tranny swap

Hey,
I'm new here I guess,
and I have a 91 camry all-trac, automatic with the 3s-fe, and i want to do a 5 speed swap on it, but i want something strong that could be used for rally racing, and i don't know anything about the strength or reliability of the camry's tranny.
anyone have any suggestions of what can be easily swapped into it from other toyotas?
i would love to do a motor swap too, but funds are limited.
thanks!

cool you have an alltrac....the auto to manual has been done by a few members on the forum, just do a search and take it from there...as for a 4wd tranny...you can use any one of the following from the celica turbo alltrac ST165,ST185 and ST205...The ST205 has the better synchros a bit more pricey....for your application the ST185 tranny would be suitable....but it all depends if you gonna change the motor for more power 3SGTE. Also do a search on white90dx (charlie) he has done the 3sgte swap and is currently building a 3SGTE alltrac camry...his is auto also. hope this helps.

Search the Celica Alltrac forums for an ST185 transmission - they should be almost free ($50+shipping or so). Most of the other parts you can take off any gen2 with a manual transmission (cables, hydraulics, etc). You will have to drill some holes in the firewall and do a bit of wiring for the clutch start circuit, etc. You will have to get V6 manual shift cables or run a small spacer to get the shift cables to work on the transmission end. Try to get all three mount brackets with the transmission along with the clutch slave and lines. Your stock front and rear rubber isolators will work and you may need to buy an upper transmission mount.

I haven't figured out the axles yet, but I'm pretty sure ST165/ST185 complete axles will work. You should be able to find those on the Alltrac forums also. There is a small chance your auto axles will work on at least one side.

Total cost of the project should be in the $500+ range for parts, depending on the deals you get... I hope you are pretty good with a wrench too.
