1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
I was at my local scrappy a few days ago with my friend, who was looking for tail lights for his mk2 jetta. Anyways I saw this late 80's celica with "rod knock" written on the windshield. I went to look at it and to my surprise it was a GT-S. So I popped the hood open and there was the 3sge with t-vis stickers and everything . Since they won't scrap the car for another 2 weeks or so I can grab anything I want from it.
So i was wodering; would it be possible to swap the manifold in my 3sfe camry? I realize that the heads are different on both engines but would a 3sge manifold work on a 3sfe? And more importantly would I benefit somehow from it in terms of power? And is there anything else that would be sort of straight bolt on from the 3sge to 3sfe?
I think some people on here have bolted the GE exh. manifold to the FE head, but don't quote me. Check that the exhaust system matches, mainly the layout of the manifold and that it matches the downpipe on your FE.

Honda my A$$, you just can't kill a Yota...
Sorry guys, I was initially talking about the intake manifold. Any info on this? I already have an exh. manifold waiting to be put on. Sorry if the question is mental, I'm kinda new to this stuff.
I think it's just too much work to be honest. It's my daily driver as well and if I mess up something I'll have to take the bus instead. Besides I'm gonna need the new ECU and higher compression pistons to go with it. For the money you spend on it you can pretty much have a running an MR2 with a 4age. So not worth it in my opinion.

Why would you? FE intake is enough IMO. Plus, IMO T-VIS system isn't really that great; you'll need to do some work if your aim was to get t-VIS working on your FE head.
May as well just rebuild what's necessary on the 3s-ge( at least machining the crank, if not replacing, and machine/replace main bearing or bottom end bearing that spun) at the junkyard and transplant it; much simpler and you KNOW it will work.

I know this is a bit late... but the TVIS intake manifold will not work on the FE head. If you can pick it up for cheap, some of the 2nd gen 3s-gte guys (90-93 Celica Alltrac or 90-95 MR2 turbo) would be interested in it.

Thanks for the info Charlie.
I haven't gone back there since and the car is probably a square of metal by now
I will definitely try and salvage some parts next time I come across something similar. Do you know which parts are actually wanted by most celica guys?
I actually found some new tail lights for my 91. New with toyota part # labels still on them in the back of a wrecked 91.. Guess the person just never got to finishing it and sent it to the yard!
