Instrument Cluster Swap

No luck finding a instrument cluster with a tach locally. Have been watching a few on ebay. Seems that most sellers do not state weather the cluster is from a 4 or 6 cyl model. What is the big difference between the clusters for the two motors? Red line? Speed max?'

My car is a 91. I'm looking at a cluster from a 89. Redline is around 6.5, and the top speed is 150 mph. Does this sound correct?

I found another from a 91, with a redline of 6K, and the top speed is 130mph. This auction actually states that this is from a 4 cyl motor, but the BIN is real high with the Make An Offer option. Might throw out $30, as the auction has free shipping.

Thanks
Jeremy

You want the one with a redline of 6K, and the top speed of 130mph.Those are the ones from the 4 cylinder models.

But if you do get a v6 one I think the idle will read 100rpm wrong as its calibrated differently. Also the red line will of course be wrong by like 500 rpm

Other then that it should work.

Do not get the V6 one. The tach will not be off by 100rpm, it will always read 2/3 of the actual engine RPM (designed for 3 pulses per engine revolution, not 2). The speedo will read correctly, but will not have your actual mileage (of course...).

As long as you get a 4-cylinder cluster with tach you will be fine. Generally, the speedo portion of the cluster is swappable into the tach cluster, so you can keep your actual correct odometer reading with the car.

Good info white90dx if I should find a newer 4 cylinder tach cluster I will simply swap my speedometer to it to keep the mileage.

Thats for the info. There is anouther junkyard our in the country that I may hit this weekend. They have well over a dozen 88-91 Camrys out in the fields. Way too muddy to drive or walk out there right now.
