91 4 cyl[2.0] setting/check timing??

If you dont short out the diagnostic port with the wire bridge, and reset your timing with the light, will it be too far advanced or retarded??..i know i've done it wrong and was waiting for the weather to get better to do it right..thx,mike

..i found some time to check...when you short out the diagnostic port in the engine bay, it retards the timing....with the wire installed it read 10 degrees..with the wire removed it was around 15.

It should be roughly BTDC 10 degrees jumpered and ~15 degrees unjumpered. I set mine, but my fuel economy was a little low, only around 22-24 mpg. Car had plenty of power though. So I rechecked the timing and it was off just a few degrees, tweaked it and now I'm averaging 33.5 MPG.
