96 Camry Odometer miles -> km

Hey Everybody,

I've got a 96 Camry that all of a sudden started reading 1.6x faster on the odometer than I'm actually traveling. I'm ASSUMING that for some reason it's reading km instead of miles. What did I do to cause this? How can I switch it back? It wouldn't be a big deal, except for my Jasper engine is gonna lose its warranty faster if I don't correct it.

I've seen posts elsewhere that claim I'm simply out of luck, but I don't believe it's that easy. Toyota is a smart company, and if they could make a single mechanical odometer for both metric and SAE cars, then they would.

Thanks in advance!

If you actually have a Gen 1 or 2 Camry from 1996, congratulations. Other wise, you may find the Gen 3-4 forum more helpful. Or do you mean the Avalon forum?

Yea this isnt the right section. I dont understand whats so difficult about figuring out what gen your Camry is...

GEN 1 - 1982-1986
GEN 2 - 1987-1991

GEN 3 - 1992-1996 <-- Your Camry is a GEN 3.
GEN 4 - 1997-2001

GEN 5 - 2002-2006
GEN 6 - 2007+
