Stuck half shaft

Im trying to take the half shaft out of my 89 camry. I have the half shaft completely out of the axle hub, but it JUST WONT BUDGE out of the tranny. The manual say that it should come out a bit on its own, and then I need to pop it out with the lug wrench. Well, I've pulled pushed pryed and cried and nothing works. I really dont want to resort to tearing the half shaft apart. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had the same problem on one of my 4-cylinder Camrys (my V6 has bolt-on inner flanges). If you can get a small screwdriver between the flange of the axle and the transmission, you can GENTLY and SLOWLY pry it out. The snap-ring inside is holding it on, and sometimes it needs extra coaxing (especially if it's aftermarket).

Try prying gently, rotate the axle slightly, then get a second small driver and pry further along the diameter of the axle flange. It worked for me. Just watch for spilling tranny fluid...

I broke it. I cut the boot and pulled the tripod joint out of the inboard joint tulip. The axle was frozen in the tranny, and I just could not get it out or get the right leverage or strength to pull it out. Plus, the setup that is holding the car up is not the best, so i didnt go too crazy on it...

half shaft

We changed this in our camry a couple years ago. For anyone else who has to do this, I needed my brothers help. I had to pry from the bottom with the end of a lug wrench and my brother was prying from above with a long pry bar. Make sure who ever is on the concrete wears safety glasses.

Ps. The snap ring in there tight and the roughly two foot pry bar my brother had was bending like hell. Enjoy. Also, I believe stanley makes a pry bar that would have made the job much easier.

Yup, although some later-model (1991) gen2 3SFE's also had bolt-on axles, IIRC.
