removing the transaxle

Thanx for the help so far. I was able to remove the half shafts, which I was doing so I could remove the tranny.

So.......I got everything disconnected from the transaxle on my 89 4cylinder Camry, bolts, axles, wires and cables--everything, and I backed the transaxle off of the shims. But, it just doesnt want to come off all the way. Ive pushed and pryed, lowered and raised, but this is about as far as i can get it. Do i have to take out the bolts that connect the flywheel and the torque converter? Am I missing something, or do I just need to keep working it?

This is about as far as I can get it

You have to remove the six torque converter bolts, so the converter will come out with the transaxle.

Yeah, I wasnt sure which forum to post in. I just removed the six bolts. It still doesnt want to come. The tranny is junk, so i think Ill just hammer on the torque conv to try and get it off.

Do you mean the torque converter doesn't want to come off? It looks like it is an aftermarket rebuild converter, if you have already remove the six bolts, then stick a pry bar between the torque converter and the flexplate, try to pry it apart while rotate the crank over a little bit at a time. The paint might have got the converter stuck in the crank. BTW, the first pic you have still shows the converter bolt in place.

yeah that was the picture I took before I removed the bolts. I've got the converter to come off just a bit. How far does it need to be away from the flywheel before it is disconnected? like an inch?

You should be able to turn the torque converter without turn the flexplate or vise versa; the torque converter should recess inside the bell housing of the transaxle.
