Gen1 will a plugged or stuck open egr valve cause a no-start?

thats my question im trying to diagnose this 1985 camry le auto that has a no-start condition ( cranks over and over), someone mentioned that the egr valve could be all plugged up could be why the car wont start? does that even sound feasible

stuck open egr valve can cause rough running but stuck closed EGR valve will not effect the idle quality

Have you checked your fuel pump to see if it's working? Or if you're getting any spark?

If you have fuel and spark, the next thing would be does it have compression? Possibly a jumped timing belt? With these its typically a timing belt or a ignition coil. Does it sound a little strange when its cranked?
