1st & 2nd Generation (1983–1986 & 1987-1991)Toyota Camry Discussion for years: 1983-1986 & 1987-1991.
Topics of discussion range from fuel economy, safety, modifications, performance all involving America's favorite family car, the Toyota Camry.
17x7.5" 48 offset Enkei RPF1's with a 10mm spacer in the front. They are only 15.2 lbs each! I had to use the high offset to fit the rears with the Celica GT4 (ST205) arms and the spacer in the front to clear the strut and planned ST205 brakes. Tires are 215/40/17 Nitto NeoGen's - I wanted something M+S rated so I can still take the car up to the snow, but they should still handle well.
And here they are:
Oh, and I got a new steering wheel too... 350mm Momo Competition, to replace my old Momo Race steering wheel that was scratched and worn out.
Let me know what you think!

Frickin love it. The rear of this car can definitely swallow an 8 inch wide wheel with camber and fender work! I think quite possibly the front as well. But I would have to figure out a decent offsett. But anyway love to see the progress. Good to know people aren't tossing their gen 2 projects to the side.

Here's my camry ^
Current: B+G Springs, KYB GR2 Struts, Erebuni Bodykit(uninstalled), 3SGTE/E52 swap, Crane HI-6S Ignition Box, Crane Timing Retard Controller.
Plans: Here
Seeing the wheels seperate from the car I would have never thought they would look good on the Camry, but I really like them.
The car looks great.

i think they look great on there! I'm debating getting new wheels and each photo of a gen 2 with non-stock rims helps with that. 15.2Lbs....can you feel the weight difference? (I've never weighed the stock steelies but I'm sure they are well over 15lbs)

The wheels are "real" wheels - in the sense that they are very popular for real race cars. They are very light for their price, and the style workse well on many cars. I would have gotten different wheels if it was just for looks, but I like these better as a whole package (weight, brake clearance, looks and price).

The overall wheel+tire package is heavier with these 17" wheels. The wheels are probably lighter the stock wheels, but the tires are heavier. They weight is also farther from the center of rotation, so it hurts rotational mass. Any difference in weight is overshadowed by the difference in sidewall stiffness of the tires. You can definitely feel the road more with these... Weight is not much of a worry since I'll be just about tripling the horsepower of the car...

The Camry looks really nice with the new wheels, nice blend of performance and style.
What suspenjsion are you running?
From your comments I'm assuming your looking to do a 3S-GTE swap? What drivetrain upgrades are you planning tio handle the power?
Chris
Hey man!
The car has Tein SS-P coilovers from an ST185 Celica. I have another thread on here detailing that install. Overall, they are pretty good - in fact, much better now with the stiffer sidewalls on these tires (the sidewalls on the 14's were just to flexy for the stiff suspension).
This car is getting an ST205 complete drivetrain. It already has the rear diff, suspension arms and subframe from the ST205 (yes, it bolts in and works great with the stock auto Alltrac Camry drivetrain). The motor is coming from my already running FWD ST205 swap Camry and I'm putting in an ST205 manual transmission. I will also be putting on the ST205 brakes, front whiteline Camry swaybar, rear ST185 Celica Whiteline swaybar, JDM Camry front bumper, carbon fiber hood and Euro Camry rear lip spoiler and probably a few other things. I already have most of that stuff - I'm just taking my time and making sure that every part is done right before moving on to the next thing.
