No Overdrive in automatic transmission

Hi guys, well I have this problem and hope you can help me solve it:

I have an 90 Toyota Camry, everything works fine with the transmission but the overdrive is not engaging, It shift to 2nd and 3rd but it doesn't shift to 4th (OD) when I'm driving at the speed were it suppost to be engaging. The temperature neddle is at normal position (half of gauge) and the transmission has enough fluid in it. There is no engine code or OD light blinking on the panel.

I operate the OD from the shift stick and nothing happens if i press or release the OD, only the light goes on or off. The Normal and Power button does nothing eather.

Other thing that I notice when driving is that if i'm at any speed 30, 40, 50 60 MPH or more and I let the foot off the pedal accelerator the revs drop to 1k like if I shift to N or P position.

Can this problem be a Electrical problem?.

The transmissions is a A140E on a 1990 Camry 4cyl Automatic.

Is reverse gear working good??
Also, unplug harness to solenoid, select D and slowly accelerate. if the car does not move at all, OD brake [BO] may be defective.

No reverse

Sort of similar problem with my 1990 Celica. There's no reverse and it drives forward in neutral. Need to shut it off and put in neutral to push backwards. It started happening after we had 3 days of heavy rain so I'm suspecting an electrical type of issue?

Check the place where cable from the gearshift lever attaches to the transmission - the bolt may be loose or the clip that secures the cable cover to the transmission housing bracket can be missing.

I had a similar problem with my 93 Crown about a year ago. It would shift smoothly up thru 1, 2, & 3 but O/D stopped working. if i pressed the PWR button it would try to go to O/D but after a few annoying shifts would settle in 3rd. The ECU was the culprit. Disconnected the battery, pulled the ECU out, opened it up and there was a burn spot on the circuit card. Replacement from a salvage yeard was $50 and it fixxed my errant air conditioner clutch too!!
Always, always disconnect your battery from both terminals (negative first) before doing anything electrical on your car. It is easier to reprogram your radio and clock than to replace a IC controlled device like an alternator or computer.

I'm finding tons of flow diagrams for solenoids but to physically place them I'm at a loss. Behind the dash??

hotred,
I was responding to TK on his dilemma but a quick check on the web http://autocomputersupply.com/index....ROD&ProdID=170
indicates your unit is located behind the console. I do not know if the Celica uses the one box to control the engine and tranny (my Crown does) or if they use separate boxes. I remember reading somewhere that in earlier cars this was indeed the case. I think you have linkage out of adjustment.
