i have a few $ saved up and now its time for some wheels. I want to achieve some stretch with the tires but i was told that i can't get wheels wide enough to get a decent stretch. whats the widest that's ok to go without any mods? and what mods will allow me to go beyond that? I got a '91 btw

i would say 7inchs to be safe from major camber and wheel rub.. you can get your fenders rolled for a price.. but like you said without any mods.. i would stick with 7inchs the most... most likely your gonna end up putting spacers in the rear wheels to make it look better...
It all depends on how extreme you want to go. With a nicely stretched tire and the right suspension/alignment, you could pretty easily get 8" wheels in there with the right offset. You will need suspension to make it look right though.
I run 7.5" wheels with non-stretched tires (and rear rolled fenders) and they fit nicely (215/45/17) with coilovers (my Alltrac).

My 17x7.5's with 215/40's rub the shock tower...with no suspension work dont to the car.

I might just lower it by compressing the springs. I have a friend who did it on his car.

i was actually gonna get some semi deep dish weels. since they are gonna stick out im not too worried about the shock towers. im more worried about them rubbing on the wheel arches.

Yea as long as you dont get more than a +40 offset. Mine is +45 and i bought two 3mm plates and they didnt work and the place closed so i had to throw my old rims back on till i can get back to the place tommorow.

alright thats good to know. thanks man
you guys think 15" or 16" by 7 with 40mm offset would be good with a decent stretch? I'm kinda trying to go for the Euro style like a lot of the VW guys.
You'll have to do a really narrow tire to get a stretch going with a 7" wheel. I would say a 16x8, 35 offset with possibly a small spacer in the front with a 185 or 195 tire or so whould be good. You might get a decent stretch with a 185 and a 7.5" wheel. 35 offset on that would be perfect and you'd want a spacer in the rear to fill out the wheel arch.
As for fender rolling, I was more thinking about the video that was linked in the 'related' section on Youtube with the Civic getting its fender rolled with that blue too. If you are fine with touch-up paint, you don't need a heat gun, otherwise it'll be important on 20+ year old paint... that reminds me, I have to touch up the fender wells on my WRX since I rolled the fenders...

edit: PS: if my buddy can fit 15"x8" wheels on his Echo, you can fit 8" wheels on a Camry... hehe...

Euro style is FTW. My next gen 2 will have that look for sure. On some BBS RS's. Once again...wheels will cost more than the car.lol
as far as you wanting to go wide on the gen two. i'd recommend some custom camber plates. If you can get atleast 5 degrees of camber I'm fairly certain that with the right offsets you can fit 8.5 up front and 9.5-10 out back. You would have to do some fender work as well to attain this. I'm planning to get started on my fender work sometime later this month.

yea euro and BBS's are FTW. Not sure if i can stretch my budget that far though as BBS are premium priced. I was thinking used wheels or get a new set of cheap ass rotas. I'm not gonna race the car so I don't really care about weight or anything performance related.
As far as body work is concerned I really don't care. The paint is waaaaaay past it anyway. If I leave a mark from rolling the fenders, big deal. I was planning to paint it this summer anyway...by myself
So my question still hasn't been answered 100%. Without any modification (other than fender rolling) what's the biggest that would fit without major issues?

F that. I'm not investing money into that ridiculous tool when a hammer can do the job
just be careful when you are hammering... might not be able to fix or undo what you did with that hammer!! lolz... and most likely you will not be able to get all the sides even.. more less matching.. as if you got it professionally done..
