No need to remove the rear shelf. Just take out the rear seat bottom, rear seat back (or sides if you have folding seats) and remove the little access panels. From there you can easily get to the strut tops to remove them.

So how did you manage to remove the rear shelf? I want to put some speakers in the back but don't know how to take it out so i can cut it.

Any help is appreciated

Remove the rear seats, pop out the C-pillar plastic and see what else has to happen... just go for it.

Buy a Camry with them? The chassis has some extra stuff welded on it for the folding rear seats. It would be tough to retrofit.

Okay, thanks mate Also, you wouldn't by any chance know where the factory plug for the rear speakers are? I know they're there because behind the radio, there was a connector for rear speakers. I just don't know where they tucked it away xD.

If it matters, i have folding seats too Charlie's hit the nail on the head, there are those metal latches (like on the door) that the seat clips onto. Probably a fairly different design.
