After Market Window Switch Mayhem

1989 4-Cylinder Manual Camry Wagon

I have had my power window switches fail two times in the past...each time replaced with a junk yard switch. Now the passenger window switch has failed, and this time I thought I would rewire and use an after market switch. In the process I screwed something up. Now none of the window switches work, nor the power locks, nor the blower fans for heat, vent, a/c, etc.

I have checked all the fuses, in the three fuse panels I know of (under the hood, driver and passenger kick panels.) I guess it is a relay or several. Any suggestions? Coming up on summer with no way to cool off, and need a solution. Thanks!

edit: The fans are now working, maybe I bumped something back into place.

redleaf, don't be so sarcastic, the Gen 2 forum is only a small group of people and sometimes it takes a little bit to get an answer. These forums are free, so you have to take what you can get and sometimes, that may be an unanswered question. Check your relays, you might as well, while waiting for an answer. Go to camrystuff.com and download their manuals to see the location of these relays. Good luck.

Editing your post to make it sound like the problem is fixed doesn't help either...

The power windows/locks and blower share a common fuse back at the positive battery terminal, "80A FLT ALT". If your blowers are working now, then the fuse is probably ok since your car wouldn't even run without that fuse.

The window and lock systems share a circuit breaker, "30A PWR CB". This circuit breaker takes its power directly from a main fuse at the positive battery terminal. It can be found above the fuse panel next to the driver's left foot. You may have to remove the lowest panel to get to it. You've probably popped this breaker.

You also mentioned that your switches are failing. This is due to the contacts inside the switches arcing a little bit each time they're used. Eventually, enough deposits build up and the switch fails. An easy fix is to remove the switch unit, take it apart, and clean the contacts inside.
