Exclamation 88 Camry LE (Runs on ether but no fuel)

Hi folks. New to the forum. I did some searching and came up with some decent info, but non of which are solving my problem.

88 Camry LE 4cyl Automatic

The car will fire and run when I spray ether directing into the intake (and runs fantastic!), but die shortly after I stop. It won't start on it's own though (always needs ether sprayed). I was thinking fuel pump or regulator, but I can't be sure.

Do the fuel pumps on these make noise when you turn the key over? Is it constant? Also, where is the fuel pump located?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thanks!

-Ben

The pump is running only if :
a] the starter is on
b] the flap in the air flow meter is not in closed position [engine is running or rotating at more then 300 rpm
c] the B+ and Fp connectors in diagnostic box are shorted together with paper clip and ignition is on [fuel pump diagnostic procedure or fuel system priming after repair].
During the condition "c" you will hear the fuel noise, not the pump noise.
you may wish to search for 'fuel pump problems ' using search feature
