2nd Generation Right Speakers Not Working in 89 Camry LE

Hey everyone.

A couple of days ago I noticed that there is no sound coming out of the right speakers (both front and back) in my 1989 Camry LE and it had been working properly since I got the car last December. I still have the stock system and speakers inside of the car. Also the car was once my grandfathers and he never used the stereo system. The car also only has 40,000km on it, so I was rather surprised that I am having problems.

This happens with both the radio and the cassette deck and I don't crank the volume very high. The only change I've done to the car was I got an alarm/immobilizer/keyless installed shortly after I got the car.

Do you know what might have caused this and do you have any recommendations of what I should do? I've checked the fuses and they are fine.

EDIT: Forgot to add that I have checked the balance and when it is set to just the right side, there is no sound.

Thanks!

Pull the radio out and check the harness for the radio. One of the wires may have become unattached or something else may have gone wrong

Check these wires:
Right Front Speaker Wire (+): Light Green
Right Front Speaker Wire (-): Blue

Right Rear Speaker Wire (+): Red
Right Rear Speaker Wire (-): White

Hey, thanks for the reply
I've tried to do that, but I'm having a great deal of difficulty getting the front cover off to remove the radio. Most of the instructions I've seen say to remove two screws at the top, but I can't find any screws to get at it. I've attached a few pictures to show what I mean.

Any idea on where the screws are?

It looks as if yours is clipped in with no screws, try to take the ash tray out, and pull from the bottom for starts, you may also be able to shove a screw driver through the top and yank down. USDM Camry's arent the same, so im really not sure.

I tried exactly that and it was rather difficult, but I was able to get the radio out. I tested the wires you suggested by taking a AA battery and connecting wires directly into the harness. I was able to get a response out of both my right speaks so that tells me the wiring and speakers are fine and I need to replace my head unit.

Any suggestions on a particular brand I should try to get for a new deck unit?

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Depends on what you're looking for in a deck. MP3 playback, AUX input, Flash drive support, etc. Crutchfield.com has a lot of options you can narrow down to.

There is a Toyota Nation member, Mike Morris, who is selling OEM Double Din Toyota Radios. You should purchase one of his and it should fit right in there.
