Umm....not sure how it should be adjusted, but search around. I know there's write-up in the gen 3 section, and it should apply (maybe with some subtle differences).

didnt find it exactly but i somewhat adjusted the throttle cable and i think it's kicking down now. the gas pedal previously had some free play in it before the car would move and since i adjusted it it's now gone. i def see teh rpm go up sharply when i floor it from cruising speed
quick question... would the tranny being overfilled with fluid have any effect? reason i asked is cuz i checked mine and the fluid is about 2" above the full mark ...

Yes, I had the same problem, I drained the tranny and refilled it to the correct level and it works awesome.
Make sure you check the level using the appropriate methods...
When cold, use the "cold" marks (engine off). When hot (after driving 6+ miles), use the hot marks - park on a level surface with the engine running, cycle through every gear and back to park then check the level with the engine running.
My auto was about 1/2 quart to high and it caused downshifting problems (when coming to a stop from speed).

So ure saying that upon deceleration, the car should start downshifting prior to stopping ? i didnt even kno that, mine doesnt do it at all. it just coasts to a stop with brake alone

Watch carefully - you will see the RPMs jump up a couple times (from maybe 900rpm to 1100rpm) when coming to a stop. Its not any sort of performance downshifting or anything - just keeping the motor from stalling. When it was happening to my Alltrac, the car stayed in 2nd gear all the way to a stop, which stalls the motor.

i got the chance yesterday to give the car a proper and distant road testing. i found the car only downshifts from coasting if i'm doing so at a very low speed. if i'm coasting at a higher speed and i go wot, there's no downshift, i just hear the engine trying to build up speed.
