problems with my gen2 (pics included)

In fact it has so many of them that I've been wanting to get rid of it for the past week.
For starters, the fuel filter is clogged up and the car won't start. No big deal right? Tried to get the damn thing off and it's impossible. The screw on the top is on so tight that the whole thing twist in the bracket. I tried tightening up the bracket to hold it better but no luck.

any tips?

While I was under the hood I noticed It was a bit wobbly. So I look up and notice that the welds on the supporting cross member of the hood (or whatever you call it) on the inner side of the hood are all off except for the ones on the sides. This explained me why the hood was so shaky when I was driving the car around.

This ones a noob question but whatever. While trying to get the fuel filter off, out of desperation I dropped on of the screws and lost it. So I undid the ground screw because it was the same size and used it temporarily. After I gave up on the whole filter project I completely forgot where the ground was in the first place. So I decided to put it here. Is this the right place for it?

Other problems that I have with the car include a cracked windshield, and a paintjob that's waaaaay past it. I haven't washed the car in a while too so it looks like it's been abandoned. I'm getting so frustrated with it.....

any tips on the fuel filter issue would be appreciated. The repair manual I have doesn't help much.

Yeah, fuel filter banjo bolt can be tight. Use a bigger breaker bar lol

Not quite sure what you're saying about the hood. Have the tack welds broken apart? Does it seem dangerous if you leave it? If so, get a new hood or re-weld it. This will require a re-spray of the hood.

For the earth, as long as it's against bare metal on the chassis; it's fine. A bad earth can cause problems i.e. metal sealed with paint.

here is a site for a Factory Service & Repair Manual http://www.camrystuff.com/index.php?page=Gen2_Manuals.

as for your fuel filter... I have the same problem, I took it to the dealer to ask them what they thought. They told me on these older vehicles they end up replacing the fuels lines. This is due to them breaking while trying to remove the old filter. Just a question; you do know that there is a nut on the bottom that needs to held in place while removing to top bolt, right? Just noticed that you didn't say anything about the bottom nut on the filter.
Hope this helps you out. Jon

For the hood support welds, just try JB Weld. As long as you don't slam the hood it'll hold together for a couple of years.

The ground doesn't matter, just make sure you scrape the paint off around the washer for good contact.

For the fuel filter, be thankful the TOP banjo bolt is your problem. I had to replace the lower fuel line because the bottom bolt wouldn't budge. And there's no room for leverage down there, with all the plumbing and the distributor in the way. For the top bolt, try getting a helper to brace the filter while you use an impact wrench on the bolt. Bracing the filter will avoid tearing the bracket right off the strut wall.

Don't give up on the car, get through this patch and it'll be smooth sailing for a lonnnnnnng time.

The fuel filter should have two spots to slip a wrench on it, both top and bottom. Get a wrench in there to hold it in place while someone else loosens the banjo bolt on top.

Try not to twist the filter too much or you'll twist the fuel line underneath.

The fuel filter canister should have hex under the banjo bolt; the slim wrench should be able to sleep onto this hex so the filter can be held in order to counterreact the twisting force. I used small air impact tool [3/8"] for the bolt.
The ground is in the right place.
The hood reinforcement is not welded to the hood; the body sealant is put there for noise reduction.

yea i know there's another bolt on the bottom. I just didn't get to it yet so I didn't know if it was gonna be a problem lol.
I might just take it in to the mechanic to get this done for me. I could do it myself but I'm already pretty frustrated with it. I just hope the car starts up and makes it to the mechanic. If not I dunno what I'm gonna do

my fuel filter was hard to remove but I did it. Did you remove the battery? It gives room. And the air box. Not mandatory, but can't hurt. Plus you can clean while in those areas. You relieved the gas system right? Remove the fuse, crank for a few seconds, all that? Spray the top bolt with a really good lubricant and let it sit. I did that after initially failing to break it and it worked.
Best of luck...oh just to cover everything you used the correct wrench right? just making sure, no offense.

I actually didn't relieve the fuel system. Which fuse do I remove? Thanks on that tip btw. And I did use the correct socket. I think it was a 13mm but not 100% sure.
