AC low pressure line ?

Which one is it? Haynes says it's the bigger diameter line, and shows a pic with it as the upper one where they curve around the shock tower. Mine has the larger one on the bottom. Was told that the low pressure valve should have a blue cap but both valves have black caps.
Was going to add some refrigerant to try to get the temp back down. AC works, but barely, and it was 96 day before yesterday. (yeah I know that's nowhere near what you'll get in Az, but we gots humadidity!)
Thinking that the larger line is correct because it go's to the compressor and the smaller one runs to the condensor first. But I was wrong once before. lol

if your system has original charge fitting the hose from can of R12 may only be threaded on the low pressure line fitting, it will be too large for high side. It is common then someone twisted 2 lines around while doing T-belt.

Thanks guys.
fred:
I 'thought' it was the big un. (but it weren't cold till I got some refrigerant in it) lol

Dr J: It was still R12 but both ports were the same thread. Dunno if it came that way or not.

I did the enviro-safe (ES-12a) change out, and it dropped the temp at the vent from 98 to 52 in about 2 minutes, left it at 54 lbs. (that's where the last can ran out) I'll know how well it worked after driving a bit,it's supposed to be in the low 90's all weekend.
Read somewhere that this stuff is mainly Propane, they claim it's compatible with either r12 or 134r systems, I don't care what it is, as long as it works, cheap too, ($49.90 delivered) compared with r12.

Thanks again!

Allen

Sorry to bring this back to life. I do A/C at work and from my experience I hav e the following info to offer. For future reference the high side is the small line, and the low side is the big line. Older R12 systems have the same size valves, the newer R134A systems use two different size valves. For R134A systems, the high side uses the big valve, and the low side uses the small valve, this make it easier to service the A/C, almost impossible to mix up lines if you will.

Update

UPDATE ON ENVIRO-SAFE ES-12a 9/27/09

The product has worked as claimed so far. Daily use of AC here in Fl. I'm happy with it. (oh yeah, it mixed with r12 no problem)
I was going to wait a year before updating, but I lost one of the freeze plugs on the back side of the engine yesterday that I can't see replacing without pulling the engine. Car's not worth that much trouble, not working outside in this heat. I'm thinking of doing a Steel Seal product test. anybody tried it yet?

"welcome to Florida"

Been here 15 years, looking back, not one of my most intelligent decisions.
Since the house has dropped about half in value in the past 2 years.

Diagnosing a backside of the block leak without actually seeing it wasn't either.
The leak is around the timing cover. Water runs down from the front and
across the oil pan then drips down at the rear.
