Exclamation HELP: A/T Shifting Problems (89' SV21) urgent

Hello all.
Today while driving our 89' Camry DLX (FWD), I realized a very strange problem. (the car was working great till today).
While accelerating, normally the car would take off.
Now, when flooring it, no power would come, and the car would jump a few times with quick bursts of power. I don't know what it wrong, not too familiar with Auto Trannys.
It seems like the car has no more power, very strange.
I managed to get the car back on the freeway, and home (+/i 20 mis.), But I haven't been going hard on the accelerator.
Also, tried the car in 2nd gear
This car is a 3S-FE.

Hope its not anything serious.
The car belongs to my grandmother, so I'm hoping to fix it quickly.

Thanks,
Rob

If tranny will be slipping, the engine will roar, but the car will go slowly.
What is you are describing sounds like engine "cut out on acceleration ignition/ fuel related.
The torque converter can produce lockup shudder at 45 mph but not likely at 65

It could also be ignition related...

Are you sure its the trans causing the problem?

In that case, I guess not.
Its just when I floor it, the car doesn't take off like its normally does, and has quick bursts of power while revving.
like i may give it some gas around a corner, no go, then out of nowhere, the tires chirp.
Oh well, any help is appreciated.
posted around the off topic forums on my turbo volvo board, and some people suggests the plugs.
dunno.

btw, white90dx, i've read the project thread you have done up on your cam, VERY sick.
VERY much a sleeper....just like our tweaked out volvos on turbobricks.com.
You should stop by, member schaff70 is a regular like myself.

It sounds like you are describing missfiring. Are you familiar with what engine missfiring feels and sounds like? If it is missfiring, I agree with white90dx. Missfiring is usually (but not always) caused by faulty ignition system components; spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, distributor rotor, and coil. Do you know when or if these components were last replaced? You didn't say how many miles are on this car and what maintenance has been done to this car. It would help a bit to know these facts.
