Changing 89' stereo

hey guys,

I searched through some of your threads, and found some help. But my camry seems to be a bit different as there are no screws at the top of the airconditioner controls. I take out the ash tray, and put my hand in and start to pull, but nothing frees itself. Its solid.

here's the website i found on your forums:

http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs...PDF/869021.pdf

Any help?

Bonus question:

I'm changing my stereo because it makes loud poping sounds when you turn it on. I'm assuming this is because of the stereo, and not something else. Is it? The speakers are new.

Does your dash otherwise exactly match the pictures in the document you posted? If so, you just missed the screws. They are fairly well hidden.

Otherwise, look all around for screws. If there are none, just yank it (pretty hard!) directly out from the dash towards the back of the car. The clips are pretty strong.

I notice you're in Canada. On the Canadian models there are no screws and you have to carefully pry it out. I was able to do it with mine. Once you get a couple clips free it gets easier. I recommend starting at the top and use a flat-head screwdriver covered in a cloth and try to pry it out. Eventually you'll get a few clips.

Have a look at the pictures of my car in this thread and compare them to your car to see if they are similar and if so try my suggestions.
