Ignition misses with Jacobs Mileage Master installed.

I have a '88 3S-FE 5spd. I bought an older version (2002) of the Jacobs Electronics Mileage Master. I modified the distributor cap so I could use the factory ignition coil.

I noticed that car was missing a little the other day, so I put new NGK V-power plugs in it at the stock gap. I put my modified distributor cap on, it has two external posts I added so that I can get the spark from the internal coil to the "secondary trigger" on the jacobs unit, through the CDI and then out of the high performance coil on the unit back to the middle external post I added which goes to the distributor rotor.

The car would idle fine with a spark plug wire jumperd between the two external posts, but when I added the CDI into the circuit it would miss. I took the distributor out and noticed that there was a crack in the factory coil. I just got a completely new distributor today, but did not get a chance to put it in yet. I'm not sure if this will solve the problem.

I don't understand why the car seemed to run fine with the cracked coil with out the CDI but then missed when I added the CDI. I will check back in with my results tomorrow when I get to installing the new distributor. I don't know if the CDI is that picky about the signal going to it. Or if there is another part (filter?) I need to add to the circuit.

I just wanted to see if anyone else had added one of these systems or somthing like it and had any luck.

Thanks.
