2nd Generation Brake light, Charge light and blown light on dash

I know someone just posted a thread about this bout my problem is a little different i think. I have a amp and two subs hooked up and today i was installing a active crossover. After everything was hooked up it sounded great and it was fine until i noticed the dash with the lights on. I took the charge fuse out next to the battery and the lights went out. So im hoping it is a relay somewhere. How could i mess up the alternator just from the crossover?

This is not really my area of expertise, but you might be drawing more amps than your alternator can put back in to the car's battery. I would put the charge fuse back in or your alternator will not be working at all. I would remove or disconnect what you installed until you can figure this problem out.

Its the same three warning lights - its the same problem. Maybe the crossover is drawing enough juice to cause charging problems now or it was just a coincidence.

So after work I took off everything i installed and lights still on. I disconnected the amp and it was still on. So i checked the volts from the battery and it was 12.5. Then i turned my headlights on which has a relay hooked up to my battery and it dropped down to like 9. So checked the alternator and it was giving 2 volts off. SO i guess its that. Some dam coincidence!! lol Does anybody know of a stronger alternator that i can get?

You might look for an independent auto electrical rebuilder in the phone book in your area. In my experience they usually do a better job of rebuilding alternators than picking one up at the local auto parts store. You may even talk to them about rebuilding it to output more amps for you.

just a suggestion.. get a cpacitor for your system, in your case get a 2 farad cap.... it will help alot and you will notice your lights wont dim when you bump it... and if you dont already have thick guage wires from battery to amp... the cap. helps the alternator from overloading.. and get a higher crank battery aswell if you see your teminals turning white...

I already have a capacitor for my system the alternator was just old. I got one that puts out 80 amps and has a life time warranty. I need a new battery soon becuase the person who had the car b4 me put in the wrong battery and now its eating away the tray. So i installed the crossover and it sounds amazing. If anybody wants their system to sounds great they need to get one. It made my system sounds 20 times better.
